Natural Coffee Eye Cream and Exfoliant Tutorial

I’m almost 40 and although I do look like I’m in my early-to-mid thirties (thank you water, yoga and a love for life!), I am trying to keep my skin nice and plump without many wrinkles. So far so good. I am noticing some wrinkles near my mouth (I smile a lot) and in between my eyes (I think from also smiling). Did you ever read that article that Kim Kardashian doesn’t smile in photos because she doesn’t want to get wrinkles. How can you not smile?!? (The bigger question is, “Why do I even know that fact about Kim Kardashian?”)

Anyways: for about 2-3 years I’ve been slathering coconut oil on my face each night before I go to bed. Every couple of weeks, I’ve been exfoliating by using coffee grounds and olive oil. OMG! Your face feels amazing afterward. I even had Kai do it a few times and he LOVED it!

The main issue I have is dark circles under my eyes. I read that coffee helps that!

Just recently, I thought I’d combine the two for an article I wrote for Momtastic.com. Check out the article here.

The reason why the combo works so great is that coffee shrinks the blood vessels under they eyes, while coconut oil moisturizes your skin.

This project is so easy! In fact, I’ve made a few batches for two of my friends and mom for Christmas already. And another batch for me because I accidentally dropped and shattered the last jar.

Step 1: Throw the coffee and coconut oil in a crock pot and set it to medium for at least 6 hours. The more the merrier. In fact the last batch, I heated it up for about 8 and then let it sit overnight.

Step 2: Lay overlapped cheesecloth on top of a Mason jar and secure it with a rubber band.

Step 3: Spoon the mixture onto the cheesecloth.

Step 4: Pour into glass containers. Place in the refrigerator for a few hours so it hardens up. Then use! Place the coffee grounds in a second jar.

How to use them:

Wipe your finger into the coconut oil cream and swipe it under your eyes . Rub the coffee grounds onto your face and then rinse off. If the coffee grounds are too dry, add a bit of melted coconut or olive oil. Rinse off over your kitchen sink because the grounds could clog your bathroom sink.
