Easy DIY Hippie Tassel Necklace Craft
I’m in love with this tassel necklace look that I found on Pinterest.
This particular necklace is from Ascot Friday and is currently sold out. Bummer, I know. So, I decided to make my own. Yes, this tassel necklace from Ascot Friday is make from horse hair and leather, but it’s also $32. So, I looked through my studio and realized I already have everything I need to make my own, although with less quality materials, but still, it’s free. Plus, this DIY necklace gives the same look and it took less than 20 minutes.
Materials needed:
embroidery string
foam board
tape
scissors
cording
beads and jewelry ring
Step 1:
Tape a piece of cording across a foam cord board.
Step 2:
Wrap the entire spool of embroidery thread around the cording and the foam board.
Step 3:
Take the cording out from the tape and tie it together so there is a knot on the top of the embroidery thread.
Step 4:
Once the cording knot is secure, use your scissors to cut the bottom part of the thread. (This is similar to how you make a yarn pom pom.)
Step 5:
Take it off of the foam board.
Step 6:
Wrap cording around the top of the thread to make it look like a tassel. Knot and secure it tight.
Step 7:
String beads onto the cording as well as a jewelry ring.
Step 8:
Cut three 2 1/2 – 3′ pieces of cord and tape them to your foam board or just hold in place.
Step 9:
Start braiding and secure with a knot on each end.
Step 10:
Once you finish braiding, slip on the tassel and tie a knot to hold the necklace in place.
Project Complete!
